Graffiti or Art?

Answer: Art

Abu Darweesh

Minaret

لا إله إلاَّ الله

I'm not sure if all minarets have "there is no god but God" on them, but I thought this minaret was particularly interesting. (I realize the letters are backward in the picture. I couldn't read it until I got home.)

What I remember

When I first looked out onto Jabal al-Ashrafia from Dar al-Anda, the building that says "remember" stuck out to me. What do I remember when I see this? I remember my mosque, Abu Darweesh, which is nestled just on top of the hill. I remember my house, which must not be far from this building and most importantly, I remember my Teta who is sitting at home praying for me and hoping that I will return home soon. I wonder what the person that painted those letter was remembering. Was he remembering the plight of the Palestinians or did he just want others to reflect? I wonder.

Inspirations from Queen Rania of Jordan

"Civic engagement is about looking outside the four walls of your life, about looking up and seeing you have no ceiling above you, that you have no limits. It shows us there’s more to life than possessions; that true value in this world lies in people."

"We need a sense of belonging in our societies, and a sense that our societies belong to us. And that’s citizenship. Not just being a resident… not just having rights… but sharing a sense of duty and pride in promoting the common good."
